I was completely shocked when my parents rolled a gigantic box, wrapped in the typical Christmas wrapping paper! Most Christmas's I have an idea of what my present could be from my parents, but this year I was in the dark. I've found, that since having kids, most of the attention is focused towards the kids and their Christmas Season, so when the big box was rolled out, I was lost!
I had mentioned to my wife a couple times that I'd like to find a used table saw at some point to help on some woodworking projects I had wanted to do. I had tried a cutting board, blog post found here, and had some difficulties due to not having a table saw. I unwrapped the edge of the paper when I saw the famous Ridgid orange! Holy cow! My parents had bought me a table saw for Christmas (and my birthday, upcoming in February)!!! I couldn't believe it, I was completely shocked! It was a Ridgid 4513, contractor saw with a rolling and collapsable stand! I couldn't wait to get it home, get it assembled, and try it out! I was my first table saw, and I couldn't have been happier to receive it! Assembly
Assembly started on a very chilly night, shortly after Christmas, chilly as in 10 degrees F or so... Northern Indiana in January can be problematic!
I knew it was going to be a race to see if I could assemble it before my fingers went numb... But I was happy with how the assembly went. It was packed really well. All of the pieces were in the box and everything was labeled really well. The instructions though, were a little difficult to understand. The mobile stand was a little complication to figure out, and I needed 5 hands to hold everything together before I could start securing the bolts, but I managed to get everything secure.
After the mobile stand, it was time to throw the saw itself on top, and secure everything! The saw itself isn't that heavy, I was surprised. I was able to place the saw on top of the stand, and with a little effort, secured it all in place!
That was about it for the night. The race ended up being a draw, I was able to assemble the new Ridgid table saw, but before I could play with it, or cut anything with it, my hands were numb! The first cut would have to come another day!
